To tighten SRAM controls (shifter/brake levers) on a Deda Alanera carbon handlebar, you should target a range of 6 Nm to 8 Nm. However, because you are pairing them with a carbon bar, the safest and most effective method is to utilize the lowest necessary force within that range alongside carbon assembly paste.


Follow the Deda Specification: Deda specifies that their carbon handlebars are designed to operate safely with a lever tightening torque of 6 Nm (minimum) to 8 Nm (maximum).


Check SRAM Limits: SRAM road lever clamps generally state a maximum limit of 6 Nm printed directly on the clamp band. Always adhere to the lower maximum limit between the two components to prevent crushing the carbon fibers.


Apply Carbon Friction Paste: Never install the levers dry. Spread a thin layer of carbon assembly paste on the handlebar drop area where the clamp sits. This increases friction friction dramatically, allowing the controls to stay perfectly secure at a lower torque value (like 5.5 to 6 Nm) without slipping.


The "Safety Slip" Rule: Many mechanics recommend tightening the levers just enough so that they do not move during normal riding, but will still twist out of the way if you crash. This prevents the lever body and the carbon handlebar in an impact.
